You are a skilled, self-aware woman who has navigated everything that came before this phase. Something has shifted, and the tools that carried you here are not quite working the way they used to. You are not broken. This is not a phase to outlast. The role shifts and identity questions of midlife do not end with menopause. They deepen into the most clarifying work of your life.
You know something is off because your own responses surprise you.
You said something to your partner you spent three days replaying.
You snapped at your child and felt buried in shame the moment the words were out of your mouth.
You cried in the car and could not have explained why to anyone, including yourself.
This is not who you are.
It is what happens when a woman who has been holding everything together for a very long time has finally run out of space.

I am Maris Pasquale Doran, LCSW, a psychotherapist with twenty years of experience working with people through the most complex transitions of their lives. I trained at Columbia University, where I later returned to teach, and I am a midlife mother living this time period's transitions and challenges myself. This work is not theoretical for me. I have sat with my own grief, felt my nervous system reach its limit, and done this work myself, not just held space for others doing it.

You are carrying more than you can name.
The program is built for you. Twelve weeks of live, clinically grounded support for mothers ready to stop reacting and start choosing.

Available for keynotes, panels, and workshops for organizations, communities, and events.
Piper Chen Sings is a New York Times bestselling children's book co-authored with her sister-in-law, Phillipa Soo, about nervousness and excitement arriving together.
This is not a wellness program. It is not therapy.
It is structured, supported, clinically informed work done in community with other women.
We begin with your nervous system because you cannot do the deeper work from a place of chronic overwhelm.
We move through identity, role shifts, and the stories you have been living inside.
You leave with the skills and the steadiness to move through the rest of this chapter and your life intentionally.
If you are feeling the weight of this phase but cannot yet name what is driving it, this guide was written for you.
The Hidden Layers guide identifies what is actually happening beneath the surface of midlife and gives you language for what you have been carrying without being able to explain it to yourself or anyone else.
Understanding what is underneath is the first step toward meeting it differently.
You have been listening, reading, and talking about your experience. Now is the time to do something about it.
The ungrounding you feel in midlife is not a problem to solve. It is a sign the most important work of your life is ready to begin. You deserve a skilled guide.
